Radiant Under-the-Floor Heating Systems

Radiant heating systems utilize a separate heat source (for example, a boiler) to provide heated water to circulate through plastic pipes under the floor. Typical water temperatures are set so that the floor temperature does not exceed 85°F. Radiant floor heating is a very efficient and comfortable method of heating a home or office.

Benefits of radiant heating include:

  • Maximum flexibility in zoning and temperature controls
  • Constant and even heat in all areas of the home
  • Cozy, warm floor surfaces for bare foot comfort
  • No unsightly baseboard heaters to take up wall space
  • Completely silent heating
  • Hybrid systems can include Hi-V Soft-Aire® and can use wall-hung boilers
  • System can use air handlers with air conditioning, wood heat, solar heat, or heat pumps
Random Air FlowConstant Heating

When installing a radiant heating system, the plastic heating pipes are installed in a concrete or gypcrete floor, or can be attached by clips under a wooden floor. A radiant system can be installed in an existing home or placed into plans for a new home. It requires calculations to be done from the project floor plans and heat loss to be calculated for each room. A report is then generated to detail how many feet of tubing will be required for each room.

FP Series FlatPlate® Heat Exchangers

Brazed plate heat exchangers can be used to provide hot water for hydronic floor heating loops by using hot water from a boiler or water tank as a source.

Hydronic Heating System

Stainless steel plates with a special high efficient heat transfer surface. The FP Series is light weight and compact - 50% to 80% smaller in size than other types of heat exchangers.

Like all FlatPlate® heat exchangers, the FP Series uses a highly efficient heat transfer surface with excellent turbulence, moderate to low pressure drops and lower fouling rates. Heat transfer coefficients up to 1200 BTU/H/°F square feet for fluid to fluid applications are typical.

FlatPlate® heat exchanger designs have been tested for performance under a wide range of operating conditions. From this test data, all applications are computer modeled and selected for optimum performance. And all units are Helium leak tested for assured quality.

Sizing and piping the Radiant Mixing Block

The RMB can handle radiant load demands of up to 120,000 BTU's and there is no need to change your current method of zoning the radiant loops. You can even use multiple RMBs to easily separate the distinctive temperature requirements between manifolds easily, without special piping. Just 4 connections do the job.

Radiant heating can also be supplied with ceiling panels. This method is normally used in schools and offices. Ceiling panels run at higher temperatures than floor heating systems. Typical ceiling systems utilize aluminum panels with copper tubing attached to the upper side of the panel. They can be installed in T-bar or drywall ceilings and painted to match any decor.

Step into a world of comfort with radiant heat. Radiant heating technology has been used for centuries and with the new high efficient boilers on the market, it provides an unbeatable combination of comfort, control and efficiency.
