HPAC e-newsletter - March 25, 2008 Heat Pumps To Receive More Equitable Tax Treatment The Federal Government is broadening Class 43.2 to include ground source heat pump (GSHP) systems used in applications other than industrial processes or greenhouses for the first time. Budget Plan 2008 include applications such as space and water heating in industrial, commercial and residential buildings used for an income-earning purpose. The changes apply to eligible assets acquired on or after February 26, 2008. An important element of the announcement requires ground source heat pump installations to meet requirements under CAN/CSA Standard C-448-02. "This is a very intelligent move by the government as it reinforces the efforts deployed by the CGC over the past three years to raise the bar in geoexchange design and installation practice," noted Denis Tanguay, Canadian GeoExchange Coalition (CGC) president and CEO. |
