• High efficiency equipment is a major investment and requires regular service, much like a car. If you consider that your heating and cooling equipment can be in operation 7 days a week, 365 days a year, the mechanical components are exposed to much longer run times than the average automobile. A car needs regular servicing to avoid expensive repairs and inconvenient breakdowns. The same thing is true for a heat pump, air conditioning unit, boiler and/or pumps.
• Residential heating equipment should be serviced in the fall, and air conditioning units in the spring.
• Commercial equipment should be serviced a minimum of 4 times per year to prevent build up of dirty filters, growth of mold and bacteria in ducts and drain pans, and to verify operation of controls and safety systems.
• It is a requirement of some WCB - boards ( such as British Columbia) that commercial equipment is serviced 4 times annually, records are maintained and the service includes prevention of bacterial growth in air handlers, cooling towers, air conditioning units to prevent spread of disease.
• Plumbing, fire protection, and specialty systems should also be tested to assure efficient and safe operation.
